    Prof.V.G.K.Murti was born in 1933, he received the B.E.degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Madras in 1953, the M.Eng.Degree from Yale University, New Haven in 1957 and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana in 1960.

    During the period 1953-56, he was an engineer with the Andhra State Electricity Department. He taught as a graduate Assistant and as an Instructor at Yale University (1956-57) and the University of Illinois (1957-60) and as reader at the P.S.G. college of Technology (1960-61) before joining the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, in 1961. He was with IIT Madras till his retirement in 1994. A professor in the Department of Electrical engineering from 1969, he held the positions of Head of the Department, Professor in charge of the Industrial Consultancy Centre and Dean, Academic Research at various periods. During 1982-84, he was Visiting Professor with the National University of Singapore.

    Prof.Murti has 40 years teaching and research experience in the two areas of his active interest viz. Cicuits & Systems and Electrical Measurement & Instrumentation. In the area of network theory, he did extensive research on Network Topology, n-port networks, and passive and active network synthesis. He was the author or co-author of about 100 research papers of which 75% are published in reputed technical journals and the rest presented at technical conferences in India and abroad. He supervised the theses of several M.Tech and Ph.D. students. Professor Murti was the Chief Editor and author of four chapters of book entitled "Principles of Electrical Sciences" commissioned by the Indira Gandhi Nation Open University. He served as the Honorary editor of Journal of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, India, for the area of Circuit and Systems.

    He is a fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.This video course was prepared during his term as an Emeritus Fellow of the All India Council for Technical Education.
